MEGHAN K. O'NEILL
RESEARCHER. WRITER.
01 about
AVID BOOK NERD. ABLE MOUNTAIN BIKER.
Meghan has yet to successfully combine her passions (although many scraped knees and ripped pages haven’t impeded her efforts). She is currently pursuing a PhD in publishing in an attempt to achieve her longterm goal of reading for a living.
In her past life, Meghan held various roles in the media industry as an assistant publisher for a digital magazine and in advertising with a national newspaper network. Meghan also holds an M.F.A in creative writing, a diploma in publishing as well as a B.A. (phew!).
Meghan’s future goals include: putting away her laundry, learning how to change a bike tire, and finishing her current book.

LITERARY COMMUNITIES & CULTURES
IN THE DIGITAL SPACE
AN INQUIRY INTO THE READING EXPERIENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
My PhD research explores the role of social media within today’s reading experience. I spend my time investigating digital literary communities and cultures in the context of specific social media platforms (such as YouTube and Twitter). The overall goal of my research is to better understand contemporary reading culture in the social digital space.
I use mixed methods that transfer across disciplinary inquiry, at the intersection of traditional literary culture and digital humanities. My diverse work experience combined with my education help me search out unique insights with the potential to improve knowledge and understanding within the literary, new media, and publishing worlds.
